Noisy AC Compressor - any cheap suggestions? 200 1992

The compressor is very noisy when running. Kinda like a bad bearing noise that is RPM dependent (higher pitched as I accelerate). The Indie sez about $800 to replace the compressor and associated AC parts. Just recharged the freon 12 and it runs cold, just very noisy. I am tempted to just run it until it fails completely.
