Occasional pinking/knocking, but no codes 200 1993

LH 2.4 Jetronic

Sometimes when the engine pulls hard it momentarily gives a little ping or two, particularly when engaging the next gear up.
I have tried swapping the knock sensor for another, believed OK. The lambda light never comes on, and no codes are shown. The car runs perfectly, returns a good fuel mileage, and has just passed its emission tests with all values well within limits.
Lambda was 1.02

The knocking is quite faint, not the pronounced rattle I have heard on other older cars such as when the ignition is too advanced.

Can a knock sensor age and get sluggish, or does it either work or not work? Is there any point in just replacing it for the sake of it?

Can the ECU get sluggish in this respect, but otherwise work perfectly?

Maybe this slight ping is normal - has anybody any advice please?

Many thanks
