There are a plethora of charges that could be filed against him (and at least one should be if it was indeed a firearm and not a pellet gun). IE: Discharging a weapon in a suburban area, discharging a weapon within 400 feet of a residence, failure to secure safe range in direction of fire, etc, etc, etc. While the laws vary a little bit from state to state, they're pretty much the same.

Shoot safe, shoot sober, and secure your targets and range.
