Buzzing sound under car 200 1986

The main fuel pump in front of the gas tank could be buzzing because the fuel pressure regulator located at the end of the fuel rail on the engine is malfunctioning (holding too much back pressure against the fuel pump. Take the return fuel hose loose at the regulator and attach a short hose going into a jar or can. Start the engine and see if there is a good flow of fuel out of the regulator. If the main fuel filter located by the main fuel pump wasn't been changed in the last 2-3 years or 30k miles, it is probably time. There is a hollow bolt that attaches the fuel line to the filter. The main pump and filter swing down from the frame to give better access. jp
