I bought a passenger side seat from the junkyard ($35). I disassembled the entire front two seats on my '89 240. (thanks to this site, I knew how to disassemble and what to expect). The back cushion on the driver's side was really messed up. I took the passenger foam and reinforced by using some canvas material that I bought at Hancock Fabrics. Also..I used 3M spray adhesive #77 (especially for foam rubber)...it was in the home section at Walmart. After reinforcing all spots that were cracking or gonna crack, I put reassembled. On the seat grids, I made sure each one had twelve rows. I used tie wraps to keep the rows uniformly apart (the stock twine stuff had gotten frayed out). I made sure that I had all the springs (I had plenty from the junkyard seat). While I was in there...I used some of the leftover old foam from the original seat to cut a small strip to fit behind the lumbar support assembly. (not too much..but just enough to make my back feel good).
I washed the seat skins and as soon as they're almost dry, I'm gonna slide them babies right over the canvas patch reinforcement job and sinch them down with some tie wraps. (I bought a big ol bunch while I was at Walmart). I think the tie wraps will be much easier than tryin to redo the hog rings. I bought black heavy duty wraps...so they won't show that much.
Right now, the seat skins are drying on the back deck after washing in the machine.....both of the front seats are gettin used to their new tummy tuck...Life is good.
