1983 245DL -- Instrument Cluster Question -- OD OFF LIGHT 200

Replaced the non-functioning clock on my 245 this weekend with a tach I pulled at the boneyard. That was easy enough. Anyway, when I pulled the cluster, I noticed a small prong on the back, just below the fuel gauge. To see what it was, I hooked the tach wire to it and the light for "OD OFF" came on. Anyway, my car is a 4 speed manual, and when I hit the overdrive, the green "OD" light comes on, but when I turn off the overdrive the "OD OFF" light does not come on. I had an 84 244 Turbo with an automatic. It did just the opposite. When I turned on the overdrive, nothing came on, but when I turned it off, the "OD OFF" light came on. So, to make a long story short, with a manual transmission, is it normal for the "OD OFF" light not to come on when you turn the overdrive off? It would seem strange for a light to be on for on AND off. What gives?
