Torque wrenches are great things...when they're needed. This is not one of those situations. Definitely don't overtighten it, but figure that you're sandwiching SOFT brass in there, so it won't take a dying strain. I think what you've been doing should be fine. I might tighten mine up a bit more than that, but it shouldn't really matter that much as long as it doesn't fall out or strip the threads.
