Tranmission woe 1st to 2nd gear 900 1993

Many Volvo 940 owners complained about the ist gear would not change to 2nd until the engine is warmed up. Some even have to stop for 5 minutes at the side of the road. However, once the gear change takes place everything seems to be ok until the engine stops for 5 or 6 hours. This is a terrible problem I faced as well over the last 1 year. Of late someone has passed this information to me.
He has the same problem rectified by adding a bottle of lubegard additive which is supposed to be friction modifier ( a black bottle). He is sure that it works although it is a month since using it. My question Does it work and hope some feedback.
