960 Cam sensors 900

Recent posts have made me wonder if I should replace the cam sensor on my 96 965 as a simple matter of course. Engine has 120,000 miles on it, and cam sensor has, to the best of my knowledge, never been replaced.

From the various posts that appear on the subjeect, it appears to be a "when" not "if" situation as concerns replacement. I'm planning a 3,500 mile drive this summer, and certainly don't want to worry too much about unexpected breakdowns. Any thoughts?
Thanks, as always.
Richard
