AC conversion old R12 question 700

Hey all,

I went to the shop today to get the old R12 evacuated out of my ac system in my 91 740. I was just was wondering if anyone knows the proper way to do this, just because I want to make sure the guy was doing it right so I can proceed with installing the retrofit kit for R134a.

He installed a hose from the rocevery system to the bottom of the compressor and I think it was running for a while, though I couldn't tell. Do the guages on the recovery system move when you are removing freon? I saw them move once but they seemed to stay at around 0 and I was just wondering. He said that it was done, but I was just wondering.

Also, in order to drain the oil out of the compressor, is it necessary to totally remove the compressor and do this?

Any help would be appreciated :)

Tom
