88 760--lost key--is the story true? 700

I have an 88 760T wagon. Some time ago I took the key code given by one dealer some time earlier and tried to get another dealer to cut a key for me--he said that for some 88s, the key codes are all wrong and won't work. I had a key copied instead. This afternoon, within a radius of 50 feet from where I sit I lost my key and can't locate it. Has anyone else heard of this issue regarding the impossibility of obtaining correct key codes for 88s?? Does anyone know what a key code should look like? I'm a bit worried here...
