Brake woes 200 1987

Out of nowhere my '87 245 w/ 210,000 miles started to make the dreaded metal to metal grind on the passenger front brakes. I pulled the wheel and found this ... I noticed that the rubber on the inside portion of the caliper was compromised. She's due for a rebuild. I threw in some cheapo pads to hold me over. The disc is pretty gnarly ...

I also found that the guide pins had dislodged from the opposite side of the caliper. I couldn't find a hardware kit locally that contained new guide pins. So, I reinstalled them and put the top in from one side and the bottom from the other side. I was curious as to why the pins do not fully penetrate the opposite side of the caliper. Are the guide pins from the hardware kits for vented disc calipers (mine) a different length from those for solid disc calipers?
