The case of the Missing case of oil 900

Hey all...

OK, got a 93 940 here, with 120,000 miles and a downright disgusting previous owner whose idea of good PM was "jiffy lube four times a year whether it needs it or not!"

It going thru lots of oil... Lots... a quart can dissapear over the course of a couple hundred miles...

Compression is:

CYL 1: 170psi
CYL 2: 175psi
CYL 3: 175psi
CYL 4: 175psi

The car does not appear to leak -- a quart of oil on the driveway would be noticed....

Spark plugs looked ok--just a dusting of balck carbon powder on them.

Are those compression numbers in the norm? The engine was tested cold, is it best to test at operating temperature?

If the compression is good, and it isn't leaking, where else could that amount of oil be going? It isn't in the anti-freeze... Could it be something happeneing only at high speed?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Warmest regards,
Fred
