Should I fix this car??? 700

I've went ahead and had the ECU replaced. The other Volvos in the area that are currently for sale are around 4000$ and not necesseraly in better shape. I guess it falls into the category of better the devil you know. Especialy since I don't generaly rely on myself to do the work (I just choose when I have things done and when I do it myself)
I talked to the parts guys and they mentionned that the ECU was very corroded like water went into it??? Is there any way this could've happened? Or was the ECU probably replaced with a "not perfect" used one?

Has always, thanks for everyone's help!
