Timing belt adjustment

I am slightly confused about timing belt adjustment. The instructions say that I must turn the crankshaft 1/8-1/4 turn clockwise and then undo the tensioner nut.

Clockwise standing in front of the car, looking at the engine. Right?

How do I turn the crankshaft? Does that mean taking off the cooling fan? Otherwise I can't put my wrench on the crankshaft bolt... Is there an easier way?
