Problem installing small tachometer 200 1989

Well, it seems that perhaps the tachometer is the problem - driving home today, it was working fine. Last nite, at about 110 km/hr in 5th, it was telling me I was doing 7500 RPM!

It's currently hooked up as follows:

There are three connections on the back of the small tach. I have the ground hooked up to ground, the colored wire (red/blue) plugged into the red/white wire behind the dash, and the 3rd terminal isn't plugged into anything.
