AC question/problem 200 1992

I'm trying to troubleshoot the AC problem in my 1992 245 wagon. When I push the AC button, nothing happens at all. I can no longer hear the click (switch?) sound nor then the noise of the AC unit kicking on/running which is fairly pronounced. I opened the hood, had my wife turn on the engine and push the AC switch but nothing. Of course the belt around the compressor was turning while the engine was running but I guess that doesn't mean anything.

I checked the fuses and they appear to be alright. Can I tell if it's a switch or clutch somehow? Any other suggestions before I take it to the shop?
