Very good eyes Janet!
In fact I have had the windshield replaced on the '80. (Actually, my parents surprised me with a new windshield last year.)
I hadn't even thought about the old chrome strip. It totally slipped my mind until just now.
The new windshield has black rubber that seals the window to the car. While it does look slick, I do like the look of chrome on my car (notice the chrome side view mirrors on the '80). I ended up putting my old plastic mirrors on my dad's '77 244. (His came with some goofy aftermarket bolt on mirrors.)
My parents had the window replaced by MS Glass. Well, it was all great... until it started raining 7 or 8 months later...
The window leaked. Quite a bit.
With the 12 month warrantee, I was able to take the car back to the shop and have the seal fixed for no charge.
However, with that in mind, I would probably recommend not using MS Glass because of their first screw up. (Thanks to them, I had a set of college books that were on the passenger floor ruined... grrrr...)
