Overheats in traffic w/AC on 200

First id like to thank David for his answer to Mondays question about my check engine light. I disconnected the battery for about 10 minutes, reconnected it and to my relief the check engine light was off and the car runs 100% better. Im also having a problem with the temperature gauge going way up when I have the A/C on and am in rush hour/stop & go traffic. When im up to speeds of 35 mph or more its fine, the temp gauge stays right below the middle. After a couple minutes in heavy traffic it starts to creep up to the red. And if I turn the A/C off it will go back down to the middle. Anyone have any ideas? Oh and by the way, this is a 1990 240dl with the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, mass air, o2 sensor and exhaust just recently replaced. The car runs very well and has 182K miles.

Thanks, Matt
