OD relay problems 200

http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=749456

The above post by Art Benstein shows the wire from the OD relay as it exits the shift lever box under the car above the end of the transmission. It easily shorted my OD relay. After the connector, the line goes to the OD solenoid.

Mine had bare wire right up to the connector, and brittle insulation on the rest. No luck (twice) for a new connector at the dealer. Instead, the passenger side parking light connector from the junkyard was identical, including the molded plastic shield that matches the bullet connector to the OD solenoid, and matches the connector shield. On the driver's side parking light, the wire was smaller.

If you go that route, just strip back a couple feet into the parking light harness at the junkyard, to ensure you have enough length to reach inside to the 3-wire connector from your OD relay on the side of the transmission hump. I just added a separate bullet connector there.

Had to remove the stuff inside the shifter box to replace the grommet and wire seen in the photo. Trying to fish the new wire through the grommet in place pushed the grommet out of its seat. "Installation is reverse...." and was a PITA. Great idea from rob24085 to sleeve the wire with fuel hose. I used a length of heat shrink tubing.

Good Luck
