COOLANT RESERVOIR 900 1993

Good evening all, wife was driving home from work, car overheated, she saw smoke, pulled over. When I arrived, coolant covered the ground under the car. reservoir was completely empty. Noticed corner of reservoir had coolant leaking from seam. I replaced the theromstat about 6 months ago. Are Volvo tanks know n for their failure? Are there more improved tanks on the market? Is there any other place to really look at or do I need to replace the reservoir with new unit. Thanks.
