Turning an AW-71 into an AW-71L 900

Is it possible to replace a non-locking torque converter with a locking torque converter? (in other words, turn an AW-71 into an AW-71L)
Can you just swap the torque converter? Is there valving and/or other things required to make the torque converter lock?

Or would it be better to just swap the whole tranny?

Thanks in advance.
