CAR TALK RADIO FIX on Volvos interior temp control being hot or cold. Same Problem?

ON a recent CAR TALK (I love to listen, I try to guess the diagnosis from the symptoms)a caller called in about his '91 240 interior temperature control being either hot or cold like a toggle switch, with seemingly no gradation. Hot or Cold nothing in between. Mine is the same way! Either Hot or Not Hot. The Car Talk guys mentioned that the caller needed to replace a temperature controller located under the dash board. Anyone hear this show? Anyone fix the same problem? Either the heat blasts out full or nothing with no inbetween no matter where you place the control lever.
Anyone replace this controller? How much of a PITA is it? Thanks.
