I just had my third issue with the actually running of the charity auction special, a 1990 760 turbo wagon. The first time I lost power, stumbled, limped the car about a mile and ran fine all of a sudden. Replaced all vac lines and fuel filter just because they need it and waited for the problem to recur.
Second time, the car started after stopping at a rest stop, ran well to the end of the on-ramp then stummbled, and lost power until I was barely running. It idled weel, but could barely move out of its own way. I limped it to a side road and continued driving about 2 miles and it again self healed and ran well.
Replaced all vac lines and fuel filter just because they need it and waited for the problem to recur. Also replaced the fuel pressure regulator because I was out of spec.
This time, I went to start it at work, and it would just crank with no intention of starting. I could not hear the couple of seconds of fuel pump run as I moved the key to run so I thought "FPR" (in my case the LH relay)! I pullled it and all appeared well, but I know better. I reinstalled it and for grins went and swapped the fan relay with the radio suppression relay. Car started immediately.
I thought I had found my problem, but I double-checked by turning on the AC. The fan did not kick on. I drove to the parts store and ordered the relay. For grins when I went out I turned on the AC again and the fan did kick on.
Is it coicidence or and intermittent relay?
