No odometer workie 200

The odometer of my 82 244 has stopped. I've done exploratory surgery on the cluster and the gear that usually breaks teeth seems to be fine. When I hook the odometer to a drill, seems like one of the gears slips on the metal shaft.

I've noticed that it does work first thing in the morning for maybe 5 miles. That may be due to cooler temperatures and parts constricting.

If the problem really is gear slippage, what is the best fix?
