Manifold heat causing vapor lock 444-544

My 59 PV544 with B16 engine is liable to vapor lock much worse than it was before I put it away for winter last fall. It runs very well at speed, perhaps a bit rich. But even on cool days if it drops to an idle it will die. If I pull in after driving and turn off the hot engine, it absolutely will not start again until after at least a half hour of cooling. Placing ice cubes on the rear carb and intake manifold allows it to start right away. There is no shield between the exhaust manifold and carbs, and the rear carb gets very hot. Does anyone have suggestions, and does anyone know where I can get a heat shield, or a standard way to fabricate one myself? Before I apply my own hammer to the job I thought I'd ask your advice. Thanks.
