replacing oil pan gasket 200

Have to stop rear engine oil leak on son's 83 245 with B23 engine. The oil leak is either the oil pan gasket or the rear main seal.
I plan to replace the oil pan gasket first because I don't want to take out the tranny ( already did it 3 times) again. If I have to, will replace the rear oil seal afterwards.
Has anyone dropped the pan with the engine in the car? any tricks to make it easier? could I use the one-piece gasket (I have 2 on hand) or do I have to order the 3 piece model so that I can clear the oil pump after dropping the pan?
Gracias,
el Raidman
