Help! 911 car only goes 15 mph 1987

HI all

Just bought a 1987 volvo 760 turbo gls. Only transportation I have. Here is the problem. I go down the road and it has no power. I mean if I get it up to 20 I am doing great! It starts fine. It idles fine. It does die on me just about every minute when I am driving.

Ok so I did some researching. I found out the man that sold it to me put a new fuel filter in. That was my first thought. I then did some research and found out that volvos must take a certain fuel filter in order to keep oem spec for fuel flow and pressure.

Is the filter the problem? maybe I should replace it with a bosch? I looked and it had only a # 3377 on the filter that is on it now.

What can it be? Am I on the right track? Please help if you can I am stuck in Piggott Arkansas (Middle of nowhereland) with three kids.
