740 GL cam bearing 700

In need of advice from those that have dealt with cam bearings. I just removed my 89 740 cam and found a fairly grooved up front bearing top journal and saddle bearing. I cleaned up the bottom saddle with 800 grit crocus cloth as well as the top. The oiling hole is open. Here's the question....Should I put in a new top bearing cap, on top of the old bearing bottom? Or should I put it all back together as I found it. Will the mismatch in diameter be a problem or will it help with oiling? The top cap is worn enough to have removed most of the oiling channel.

The camshaft surface itself looks fine.
