Need information on volvo turbos

Im contemplating my first turbo purchase. The deal is not done and im trying for as much info possible. Where can I find good information on turbos?

The car in question is 88-760. I understand that there are 2 possible turbos in this car. How to tell the difference? What is the significance of the difference?
