AMM is bad, do I just have to replace it? 200

So I unplugged the AMM and it ran fine (idled at 2000rpms) and plugged it in while running and it died imediately. So do I just pick one up from the junkyard? I can get one rebuilt from my parts supplier for $125 but don't want to spend that much. Is there any way to try and get it to work?
