T-Stat Question? 1800 1970

I can attest to the fact that fuel injection is pretty picky about temp...and I'd definitely try finding that 170 thermostat. that would be a good start anyhow. It could well be that its not an uncommon type of thermostat that fits different types of vehicles. I'd think it might be worth your while to do some cross referencing (or have your friendly parts counter assistant do it) and see if a colder one is available but listed only for other makes/models.

The other things I'd do though are do a thorough checkup on the rest of the cooling system itself. And perhaps you'd do well to get a mechanical gauge in there to make sure your original one is accurate.

Does teh temp come down at higher speeds of 40+mph? If so, the addition of an electric fan may well be in your cars best interest. I was told when I got my engine of similar specs to absolutely not overheat it... much more prone to warping than a stock B20. makes sence to me... I put in a known good new mechanical gauge before I even fired the thing up for the first time. It gets warm in the summer too, but comes down at speed fine. Mines in the 145 though, which may have more airflow than your 1800.

Good luck with it!
