1991 b230f tuning questions

I have been wrestling with a 1991 245 for a few weeks now and while I've learned a LOT in the process, I have a few issues that I hope someone can clear up. I purchased the car and it ran and drove fine, but did not have as much power as my 1992 245.Due my nature and incomplete service records on the car, I decided to do some major service to set myself at ease. The first thing I noticed was a small leak from the coolant pump...no big deal, replaced the pump with a HEPU replacement. Next was the timing belt and tensioner. I noticed after disassembly that the timing belt appeared to be off a tooth. The car was running good before the TB change, but as I am obsessive about EVERYTHING being to spec. I reinstalled to the specs in the Bentley Bible. Then I encountered a plethoura of problems. Hard restart-(checked crankshaft sensor). It was erratic but this was due(I think) to my installation being off a tooth at the crank, so I reinstalled the Timng Belt with ALL marks aligned at TDC this time. To cut to the chase, I started getting a lot of error codes on both the injection and the ignition side. I followed all testing proceedures(at sensor when required and at ECU with multi-meter) and eliminated things one at a time. MY question is: If the previous tech installed the belt a tooth off, could he have corrected the running condition by manually adjusting the air-fuel mix and TPS. I ask about the TPS because when I removed and cleaned the Throttle Body and IAC, the adjustment was so far off that it did not get a reading when checked from the ECU pin, as well as check engine light and OBD test pointed to no signal. When I took the TPS apart and checked it internally, it was fine both in operation and in resistance values but not adjusted properly when previously installed on the TB. I adjusted to spec, and Bingo-No more check engine light. I then got signs that the EGR was malfunctioning, I went through all checks including complete 02 sensor checks and they too were fine. Now I don't have any more starting issues, but it still is not running right and I am not getting any more check engine lights. I must also mention that I have changes all the filters including the main fuel pump filter and cleaned the injectors, but it is still not getting adequate power at low RPM. PLease help, and pardon the lengthy post. Thanks yet again....
