Should I get this P1800E? 1800 1971

Hi, I posted a few days ago about a '71 p1800E that I checked out for sale. Although this is this first p1800 I have driven, it has some issues. The fuel injection has been replaced by SU carbs. Performance is sluggish at best, and the engine is very loud. Dirty air filters perhaps, but I think I would replace with FI again some day. However, it does come with a set of spare carbs. Steering is very stiff, but that could be a steering box or ball joint problem - not too concerned. Seats need work (mainly webbing), but OK as is. Shifter shaft is different, do not know why. Body was repainted 10 years ago and rockers were replaced. Paint is still very good, but rockers are starting to bubble again. A little bubble near one of the headlights.

Mileage is around 85,000 and the price is below $3000.

I'm thinking it might be worth a chance at that price. The alternative is a near perfect '71 e with 100,000 miles for $9500. It seems to me, good 1800's are going for $6,000 to $8,000. So, with considering the amount of future work, I'm thinking it might not be a bad deal.

Tom
