Turbo Diaper Changing. 900 1991

Oh, and another problem I have which is unrelated to the brake problem is as follows. The turbo is rather unresponsive. This bugs me. My ford van had more nut. While gunning the vehicle the other day, it kicked out a black cloud of smoke, and took off. Incredible pick up, but also overboosting. Looking under the engine, I noticed that the hose from the actuator to the wastegate had come off of the actuator. Sadly, I put it back on (though secretly wondered if I controlled the boost level so it didn't over boost whether or not it would be okay to pull the hose off again so I could have some pick up - bad idea? how bad?) and the boost level dropped dramatically, never going past 2 oclock, even at 4 grand. From power and glory to slow as a beetle with the connection of one hose...now that sucks.

Since there is obviously a leak somewhere either on the manifold, or a pipe (you can smell exhaust at idle), this is a problem. I will be taking off the cat to see if its plugged soon (i figure that the blocked cat exhaust probably had to come out somewhere, and this is maybe where it came out). However, after this long story (background info helps, right?), the question I have is this...why, when I start my vehicle, do I hear a squeeling noise coming from the generalized turbo area? It seems to lessen once the engine is good and warm, or perhaps I am less aware (though I swear I hear it sometimes). IS this a symptom of a future disaster in the making? Am I destined to need some sort of turbo rehaul? Will Justin be able to fix this on his own?

Thoughts, comments, and strange diatribes welcome.

J
