Adding overdrive / tachometer 200 1979

Both are good to have, in my opinion.

Most likely your car will not be wired for the tach but look to be sure. Wire would be white (or maybe gray, I can't remember) with a red stripe if it is there. The other end connects to the coil. If no wire is present you can run one or you can tap the white (or gray)/red wire at the fuel pump relay. I did this on my car. It was easy and it works fine.

If you find an M46 trans it may need some refurbishment before installation. Have a look at the overdrive rebuild article found here. Duane is extremely knowledgable on the subject and has or can get most of the parts needed. Most likely anything you find would only need a few o-rings replaced and a gasket or two. Probably it's best to get one from someone who's parting a car and can describe any abnormal behavior it might have been exhibiting.
