Air intake idea! B230FT 700 1987

The "between the fender" air intake set up has always concerned me, it seems your pulling air from very near the highway. Maybe not the coolest but likely stays fairly clean possibly a carefully thought out design?

Watching class 8 semi's they often have a grille in the side of the hood for an air intake. So my last trip to "Volvo's Only" I picked up the little grille used on the 240 wagons on the right rear quarter. It is 7" X 3" black plastic and is just what I was looking for. The purists will not approve but I cut a hole in my front fender and attached my fresh air intake.

So far (6 months)I have not noticed any additional moisture in the air cleaner box. I don't know if it helps but I feel better that my Volvo is breathing maybe a little better.

I recently recorded 31.7 MPG and had never done that before! The next tank was 29 so it was not an error or short fill up.
