Optimal B20B timing curve 140-160

How good is the stock ignition timing curve for the B20B? I've read all the discussions about disconnecting the vacuum retard and so on, but was wondering it someone might have tried from scratch to find a curve that works well with this engine. I'm concidering designing a timing controller which will probably end in a distributorless ignition controller. As an electronic engineer the circuit design is simple, but designing timing curves is a bit of a black art to me.

By the way, apparently Europe got vacuum advance distributors and not vacuum retard. This is from a moderator of another Volvo forum.

Thanks in advance...
