My ignition coil is squared and on the driver's side (not the Bosch version) confused please help!!! 700

Greetings one of my 1989 740 GL wagons (non-turbo 8 valve) has an ignition coil that is on the driver's side. I resembles a american (general motors) style of coil, whereas it is square in shape and has its very own small bracket. I have bosch cap/rotor and bougicord wires, but when did this particuar coil get introduced to the line? Are they more or are they less efficient than the original tubular Bosch versions? The car currently has 285,000 miles on it and runs strong! Please help all of your reponses would be greatly appreciated!

Best Regards!

1988 740 GLE wagon (non-turbo) currently 423,000 miles
1989 740 GL Wagon (non-turbo) currently 360,000 miles
