A/C 900 1993

Last week, wife was driving home when car overheated and dumped coolant from expansion tank. Shew was at a stop light when the overheating occured. I couldn't find any leaks from tank or cap. A/C was working previous to this incident. Towed car home, next day, filled expansion tank, no leaks anywhere. Turned on compresssor, I heard constant hissing sound like is was trying to cycle, warm air coming from vents, no electric fan operation. tested fan, works fine. Do I need a new compressor? Thanks in advance.
