surging, eratic idle 700

hey everyone, in the last two days ive noticed a problem with my 1987 765ti. the situation is the car idles normally, and
while coasting with-out my foot on the accelerator at around 800 rpm, but lately while im driving it will jump to around
1500rpm for a second then return to normal, sometiomews it spikes at 3000 or so for a fraction of a second then
immediately drops to almost zero, and looses most of its power, the car ussually doesnt stall, and quickly retuns to
normal, today while driving for 30 mins theses occurance happened amybey 15-20 times, im scared to take it on busy
streets fearing it will die.

also the irratic idle fluctuations almost alwasy happen when i switch from drive to reverse and vice versa

and sometimes if the car is not 100% at opperating temp it will stall ( happend 3 times in about 3 days)

NOTE the car has a newer IAC motor so i hope thats not it, also newer brake booster, and wiring harness looks decent

i may be way off but it feels like im have vaccumm pressure problems

any ideas?

thx in advance
