Removing the License Plate Lights so I can change my license plate frame 200

Hello...what is the trick to removing these suckers? I have tried to slide them back toward me but they don't seem to move much. I then tried to pry them off with a screwdriver (one of them was done this way) yet there was still something holding the assembly together and when I tried to pop it back it wouldn't stay ...I had to apply 3M emblem adhesive. There has got to be a better way!! By the way I am not a guy ...so I may be be lacking in the upper body strength area...but not in determination...so any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!!
