Black Trim Tape Top of Doors Under Windows Question 200

The black tape that runs along the top of the doors and under the windows is looking pretty bad. I want to remove and replace it. Anyone done this? Suggestions for removing it? Suggestions for replacements? It looks like tape, but I was thinking I could probably replace it with black paint. Any and all suggestions appreciated.
