oil temp reding? and tranny question? 200

hi all i installed a oil temp guage today, the car is a 85 244 turbo. what kind of oil tempature am i hoping to be running? i just drove about eight miles and it was reading about 150 degrees farenhieght. question #2 i installed a transmission in same car a 03-72L, swapped the tailshaft and the gear that goes on the shaft to drive the speedometer. the speedometer is not working, the gear that goes on to the tail shaft can be seen with a flashlight. where speedo cable hooks up it doesnt catch. could i have put this in backwards, when i look up in the hole with a mirror i can see the gear but it seems to be offset to far forward to drive the little speedometer gear. any thoughts. thanks
