Redline oils 700 1989

I have been seeing more venders selling Redline oils. I'm wondering, since they carry a hefty price, if Redline products are so much better than Mobil synthetics.
I am installing a newer bone yard tranny and I'm also wondering if there is any real advantage to going synthetic. The original tranny which has 300,000 miles is still operating fine, though somewhat sloppy when downshifting, and never to my knowledge had synthetic oil. The much newer bone yard tranny (135000 miles) may have had synthetic but I have my doubts. Is there any good reason to go synthetic, is there any good reason not to? Is Redline really good enough to justify the cost?
