sunroof headliner replacement 700 1987

760T sunroof headliner ... aaaarrrrghhhh!!!!

it would seem that since the 1/8" foambacked headliner material for the sunroof can't be glued to the whole sunroof headliner metal (because of the contours of the metal making an uneven surface???) that we can only glue the perimeter of the material... requiring stretching the fabric from one side of the perimeter to the other. But the fabric doesn't seem to be strong enough to stretch without tearing the foam backing and buggering it all up.

the original material had some kind of cheesecloth looking stuff between the foambacking and the metal ... is that to give it enough strength to take the stretch?

so I'm confused... did I get the wrong material? do I need to glue the material I have to some kind of Volvo cheesecloth fabric? Am I missing a sunroof board/part that attaches to the metal and allows the foambacked material to be glued to it??

I dislike fabric headliners anyway ... but the 700 headliner would seem to be the worst possible replacement!

much thanks for any help.
