Can the gauge of the wire affect the reading? 120-130

So I used a 12 gauge wire to connect the temp sender to the gauge.
Will the gauge of the wire effect the reading on a VDO temp gauge?
Tried richening the mixture to rule out running lean...no difference. Will put in a new thermostat tonight. Engine runs fine, no loss of coolant. Perhaps my mechanic friend will loan me his infrared temp reader for comparison.
