Engine revs itself during idle

The idle air bypass valve may be opening and closing erratically. Could be just a dirty valve - take it off and clean out with carb cleaner. Or could be a defective coolant temperature sensor. The idle is supposed to be higher when the engine is cold - the temp sensor signals the computer to open the IAC valve. Then the idle is supposed to drop to 900 when the engine is warm - the TS signals the computer to close the IAC valve.
