1989 Volvo 24 200 1989

When I 1st start my 240 Volvo wagon FOUR CYLINDER, it runs fine, then after 5 minutes of the car running it then runs sluggish when you start to accelerate as if it's running on 3 cylinders.
If I put the car in Park and press on the gas pedal quickly I do hear a very small backfire from the exhaust. Is the root cause the Oxygen sensor? or what do the exports recommend I check for in sequence.
Thanks again for all your help, my last issue was resolved 100%.
