Changed bad ICU unit - how often does this happen? 200 1982

RE: '82 244DL 4spd+OD ,K-Jet FI , 162K .Today my engine started over-revving up to 2500 RPM at idle . Checked linkage, butterfly ,cable etc. Drove home & replaced the idle control unit with a good used spare. Problem solved . How often have people had this experience as these units usually last a long time ? .
